BARAMULLA, Aug 7: A 40-year-old was killed and five others injured as India and Pakistan troops exchanged fire along the Line of Control in Karnah area, while there was CFV from Pakistani side along the LoC in Boniyar area of Uri sector in this north Kashmir district on Friday.
A top police official said that Pakistan army resorted to ceasefire violation (CFV) along the Line of Control (LoC) by firing small arms and mortars, resulting in injuries to six civilians at separate places.
At least six civilians injured who were identified as Mohammad Arif from Shamspora, Mohammad Yaqoob from Baghballa Kachadiyan and Syed Rafaqat from Kachadiyan, 42-year-old Hamida Begium wife Mohammad Akbar, Zakir Khan (24) and Nasser Ahmad Khan, all residents of Rangward, said sources.
They told ET that, all injured persons were shifted to hospital among which Mohammad Arif succumbed to injuries while condition of the woman is stated to be serious.
Sources also said that, panic has gripped among the local residents of border areas including of Karnah, Tangdhar, Machil, Nowgam sector of Kupwara district. There was some partial damage to houses, cowsheds while as some cattle’s have also died due to Pakistani shelling. Some households of these areas have shifted their families, cattles and other properties towards the safer places, said sources.
However a top police official said that, India and Pakistan armies on Friday exchanged intense fire along the LoC in Boniyar area of Baramulla district.
It was learnt that, Pakistani troops used heavy mortar shelling and targeted check posts in Boniyar and other posts in Baramulla district on Friday morning, the official added.
Sources from Uri area said, Indian troops guarding the LoC retaliated befittingly, exchange of fire was going on, adding there was no immediate report of injuries or causalities till the last reports came in.
Meanwhile, Srinagar based defence spokesperson, Rajesh Kalia in a statement said that Pakistan initiated an unprovoked Ceasefire Violation (CFV) today early morning along the LoC in Kupwara district by firing Mortars and other weapons. Befitting response is being given.
Pakistani army also violated ceasefire along the LoC in Uri by resorting to unprovoked firing.
The Pakistani troops fired small arms and mortar shells in the Boniyar sector of the Uri sector in Baramulla district, said Kalia.
He said that, the Army gave a befitting reply to the “unprovoked aggression and retaliated in adequate measure”, adding there were no reports about injury to any person so far in Boniyar area of Baramulla district.
