COVID-19 death toll reaches 459 in JK as 10 more die, 463 fresh cases reported

SRINAGAR, Aug 8: The COVID-19 death toll in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reached 459 as 10 more people died due to virus in the past 24 hours. In the meantime, 463 fresh cases of virus were reported today as a result of this; the number of positive cases reached 24,390.
Srinagar, Baramulla, Pulwama, Anantnag and Kupwara districts reported two Corona Virus deaths in the past 24 hours. So far 425 COVID-19 affected patients have died in Kashmir valley while as number of deaths due to virus in Jammu division is 34. Srinagar has the highest number of casualties with 149 deaths.
Srinagar reported 178 fresh cases of Corona Virus followed by Budgam 61 cases, Jammu 40 cases, Pulwama 38 cases, Ganderbal 24 cases, Anantnag 23 cases, Kupwara 21 cases, Baramulla 20 cases, Kathua 15 cases, Poonch 12 cases, Bandipora 10 cases, Samba seven cases, Shopian six cases, Kishtwar four cases, Rajouri two cases, Kulgam and Udhampur one case each.
The Jammu & Kashmir administration through the media bulletin informed that 463 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 81 from Jammu division and 382 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 24,390. Also 10 COVID-19 deaths have been reported from Kashmir Division.
Moreover, 449 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 181 from Jammu Division and 268 from Kashmir Division. Out of 24,390 positive cases, 7,264 are active positive, 16,667 have recovered and 459 have died; 34 in Jammu division and 425 in Kashmir division. Out of 7, 06,780 test results available, 6, 82,390 samples have tested negative till date.
Additionally, till date 3, 88,741 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for observation which included 42,012 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 7,264 in isolation and 47,304 under home surveillance. Besides, 2, 91,702 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Srinagar has 6,000 positive cases, 2,392 active positive, 3,459 recovered, 149 deaths; Baramulla has 2,093 positive cases, 400 active positive, 1,614 recovered, 79 deaths; Pulwama has 1,807 positive cases, 734 active positive, 1,044 recovered, 29 deaths; Kulgam has 1,594 positive cases, 155 active positive, 1,410 recovered, 29 deaths; Shopian has 1,514 positive cases, 182 active positive, 1,308 recovered, 24 deaths.
“Budgam has 1,523 positive cases, 448 active positive, 1041 recovered, 34 deaths; Anantnag has 1,521 positive cases, 313 active positive, 1,176 recovered, 32 deaths; Kupwara has 1,230 positive cases, 233 active positive, 972 recovered, 25 deaths; Bandipora has 972 positive cases, 344 active positive, 611 recovered, 17 deaths and Ganderbal has 654 positive cases, 307 active positive, 340 recovered, seven deaths,” reads the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 1,513 positive cases, 700 active positive, 790 recovered, 23 deaths; Rajouri has 756 positive cases, 231 active positive, 522 recovered, three deaths; Udhampur has 619 positive cases, 203 active positive, 414 recovered, two deaths; Kathua has 589 positive cases, 104 active positive, 484 recovered, one death; Ramban has 576 positive cases, 41 active positive, 534 recovered, one death.
“Samba has 485 positive cases, 169 active positive, 315 recovered, one death; Doda has 302 positive cases, 47 active positive, 253 recovered, two deaths; Poonch has 265 positive cases, 91 active positive, 173 recovered, one death; Reasi has 214 positive cases, 134 active positive, 80 recovered and Kishtwar has 163 positive cases, 36 active positive, 127 recovered,” reads the bulletin. Out of 24,390 positive cases, 4,876 have been reported as travelers.
The bulletin has informed the people that, the best way to protect themselves from COVID-19 is by maintaining physical distance of at least two metres from others, frequently cleaning hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer or washing them with soap and water and following good respiratory etiquette and hygiene. As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory.
