JAMMU, Aug 10: United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and Regional and Urban Development Agency today launched ‘Bin It Right’ campaign in Jammu from ward No 50, Channi Himmat.
Mayor JMC Chander Mohan Gupta flagged off the campaign in presence of Deputy Mayor Purnima, Chairman JMC, Baldev Singh Billoria, Neena Gupta , Councilor Ward No 50, Raj Kumar, Councilor Ward No 51, Sh Anil Kumar, Councilor Ward No 68, Ajay Gupta, Councilor Ward No 52 and Tina Mahajan, Secretary and Nodal Officer, Swacch Bharat Mission, JMC. Residents and Safai Sathis also attended the programme.
Sanjeev Arora, CEO, Regional and Urban Development Agency said that this campaign would be initially for 30 days and during these days speaker fitted vehicle will run in each and every street of Jammu to sensitize residents for source segregation of their household wastes and motivate them to put right waste in right dustbin. He also informed that with the support of UNDP-HCCB, Material Recovery Facility (MRF) will be reality soon in Jammu and within next one-month waste processing will be started at Bandhu Rakh Kunjwani with latest machinery and equipment.
While speaking on the Occasion, Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor said that ‘Bin It Right’ campaign would be unique initiative of UNDP and this will really help to facilitate source segregation of waste and reduces the pressure on landfill sites and also help to protect environment and ground water from being getting contaminated.
