JU organizes webinar on career opportunities in Bio Sciences

Jammu, Aug 11: Placement Cell, University of Jammu, organized fourth lecture under the web lecture series on “Career planning and opportunities in Bio Sciences”. Prof. Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor was the chief guest on the occasion. In his address Prof. Dhar highlighted the problems and opportunities associated with Coronavirus outbreak, therefore, the role of science especially the R&D is of paramount importance in offering solutions and avail the opportunities in the new normal. While addressing the students and scholars he said while staying at home we should improve our existing skills and try to learn some new ideas and knowledge from an eminent resource person of the lecture and explore the applicative aspect of the science for societal development.
Prof. Mrutyunjau Suar, Director School of BioTechnology, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology Bhubaneswar, Odisha was the resource person. Prof. Suar is a reputed scientist in the field of vaccine and has two patents that are “Live Attenuated Salmonella Vaccine” and “A pharmaceutical Combination for treating Tuberculosis” in his credit besides various international and national collaborations. He is also the Chief Executive of Technology Business Incubator at KIIT (KIIT-TBI), which is promoting 23 start-ups in the field of ICT, Biotechnology and Engineering. This centre promotes innovation led enterprises establishment and job creation. While addressing the students and scholars he highlighted the potential upcoming areas of career opportunities, like drug discovery, clinical trials, scientific writing and editing, design thinking, technology transfer activities, science journalism, etc. He also shared the different support schemes for innovation and entrepreneurship EIR,SIIP,TIDE,PRAYAS,MSME,BIRAC with a purpose to avail such opportunities to contribute and be a part of innovation India.
Earlier, Prof. Vinay Chauhan, Dean, Student Placement and convener of the event presented a welcome address and shared the profile and activities of the placement cell. He also sincerely thanked the resource person for sparing his valuable time to interact with the students and scholars of the bio sciences of the University of Jammu. Dr. Shubhnandan S. Jamwal, Secretary of the program introduced the speaker and conducted the proceeding of the program including the Q&A session. Prof. Roopma Gandotra, Dean faculty of Dr. Madulika Bhagat was also present in the lecture. The students and scholars of the bio technology, botany and zoology department attended the lecture.
