Govt’s arbitrary move to disband SHGs unfortunate: Harsh
8/15/2020 12:23:08 AM

JAMMU, Aug 14: Lambasting the J&K administration for abolishing nearly two decades old scheme of SHGs which has rendered 15000 engineers jobless all across UT, Harsh Dev Singh Chairman JKNPP and former Minister said that the sinister move of the Government had further aggravated the fury of enraged youth of J&K who had pinned high hopes with the dispensation for their absorption in the regular employment.
He said that ‘Self Help Group of Engineers Scheme’ which has been disbanded by the J&K government was the sole bread and butter for the unemployed engineers of the UT. “Why the government is averse towards the youth? Are these the ‘Good Days’( Achey Din) which the BJP had promised for the young people who voted it to power with a colossal mandate?”, anguished Harsh asked.
Elucidating the role of the SHGs scheme, Singh divulged that 30 percent of the works in government departments, corporations and autonomous bodies were reserved for SHGs of unemployed engineers to provide them financial succour. “Being the trained technocrats from the reputed varsities, they have proved themselves efficient in executing the works allotted to them. It is really shocking that the government had taken this anti-youth decision just after six months when the Labour & Employment department assured the engineers that it was modifying the scheme guidelines to make them more progressive so as to enable the SHGs to take up bigger projects. This draconian decision is a glaring example of betrayal with the qualified technocrats. Where BJP leaders have undergone in hibernation now? This ‘Jumla’ will surely cost them dearly now in the days to come”, warned Harsh.
Seeking immediate roll back of the government decision to abolish SHGs, Harsh Dev Singh rued that the Government instead of providing employment avenues to the youth of J&K , seemed hell bent to deprive the young fraternity of their jobs. “Panthers will stand toe to toe and shoulder to shoulder with the aggrieved engineers. The treatment doled to the qualified youth is obnoxious and intolerable. We demand immediate revocation of the ominous decision which otherwise would trigger severe unrest among the youth,” he said.
