Anti graft agencies playing vital role
8/15/2020 12:34:25 AM
The Anti-Corruption Bureau in Jammu and Kashmir has become vibrant since the day erstwhile State was reorganized into two union territories, J&K and Ladakh.
According to the media reports the ACB has decided to launch a massive drive for prevention and detection of corruption. In the recent past the ACB has acted against many big fishes, who used to believe that they are above the law and can get away with anything.
Top national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on many occasions have spoken about the rampant corruption prevalent in Jammu and Kashmir. They are aware about how system was mishandled by the erstwhile political regimes.
Since August 5, 2019, when the Centre announced its decision to bifurcate J&K into two Union Territories and abrogated its special status many skeletons have tumbled out. The Kashmir centric politicians, who ruled J&K for the past 70-years had turned the system upside down.
The ACB becoming active has unnerved many big shots in J&K and they are looking for ways and means to save their skin as they have realized that in J&K UT anti-graft agencies are no more toothless tigers and these have been given full freedom to act against the corrupt elements.
Many corruption scams were pushed under the carpet during the former political dispensations as the people involved in these scandals were influential and enjoyed strong connections. After J&K was turned into the Union Territory all the connections were cut and people, who used to think that no one can touch them, were nailed. There are reports that investigations are going on and New Delhi is keen on bringing the real face of these politicians to fore.
Helmsmen sitting in the national capital seem to be of the firm belief that terrorism can’t be wiped out from J&K till corrupt are taken to the task as their misdeeds have been responsible for many evils in Jammu and Kashmir.
After J&K’s reorganization the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been empowered to take cognizance of any corruption related complaint and act against the accused. The anti-graft agencies getting frontal role is a step towards setting the system right. The recent assertions of the J&K Chief Secretary B V R Subrahmanyam that system in J&K had become defunct had left the Kashmir centric leaders red faced as the CS minced no words to send a strong message.
