Time to bloom Jammu as independent tourist destination: Kavinder
9/19/2020 11:23:58 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 19: Applauding Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for extending the much needed special relief package worth Rs 1350 crore for trouble ridden J&K UT, which is facing acute economic crunch due to disturbances on account of political turbulence in wake of its total integration with India and the recent halt in the socio-economic activity due to COVID-19 crisis, senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta said that it is time to once again breathe life into stalled tourism sector in J&K, which is one of the mainstays of the UT’s economy and also help Jammu to blossom as independent tourist hub by exploiting its scenic beauty and splendid religious destinations to the fullest.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, the senior BJP leader said that the relief package will go a long way in boosting the business and the other ailing sectors in the UT of J&K thus bringing back smiles on the faces of people who suffered a lot while confronting so many issues including the traumatic terrorism in the last over three decades.
Gupta, however, appreciated the central dispensation for efficiently handling the J&K affairs and bringing it out from the morass and putting things back on track leading to peace, progress and prosperity. He said this is just a beginning and much more is in the offing. He also lauded the concerned Committee for submitting the report in stipulated time. He said this is additional to the benefits of Atma Nirbhar Bharat and other measures taken by him to comfort the business community.
Gupta also hailed 5 per cent interest subvention to every borrower from the business community, without any conditions for six months in the current financial year. “This will be a huge relief and help in generating employment and augmenting the business sector here," he added.
Dispensing information about the package, the former Deputy Chief Minister said that it will also cover those sectors that have suffered losses in the newly created UT in addition to the ailing business sector. Notably, this package was announced just days after Kashmir Trade Alliance (KTA), an umbrella of various trade bodies, had earlier stated that due to lockdown businessmen have incurred huge losses. Kavinder Gupta appreciated that under the credit card scheme, the government has decided to extend the maximum limit of Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh for people working in the handloom and handicraft industry. "They will also be given 7% interest subvention. From Oct. 1, J&K bank will start a special desk for youth & women enterprises. Gupta also welcomed that J&K LG announced Rs 8,750 cr economic package to revive the economy, 50% rebate on power & water bills that will benefit the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the coming days and it will benefit the inhabitants of J&K. He said this relief package will help the farmers, business community, needy people and others.
