Farooq talks about everything in LS, omits Article 370

Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 19: National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah talking about everything in the Parliament except Jammu and Kashmir’s special status is an indication that the NC has finally acknowledged that Article 370 is history now.
Farooq Abdullah, who attended the Parliament for the first time since his release and scarping of Article 370, had hinted that he would rake up the issue of abrogation of J&K’s special status in the Lok Sabha. However, the NC president spoke about oxygen shortage, non inclusion of Punjabi language in the list of official languages in J&K and other issues but didn’t utter a word about Centre’s August 5, 2019 decision.
The 81- year old veteran politician on Saturday raised the issue of suspension of high speed internet in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that people in his region do not have access to 4G facility, how are they going to move ahead in the present time when rest of the country has access to every facility on the internet.
Farooq Abdullah’s statement in the Parliament has made things amply clear that the party is not going to raise any such issue which can put it in trouble again.
Interestingly, last year, on August 3- just three days ahead of scrapping of Articles 370 and 35A, Dr Farooq had stated that the NC was ready to amend Article 35-A and will omit the gender bias out of it. He had said that the Central Government should not tinker with JK’s special status and if there is a need to amend any of its clauses, it will be done by the NC once it is voted to power. “If there is a gender bias in Article 35-A or in state subject law, we can take care of it in the assembly. The Central Government shouldn’t fiddle with it while there is no elected government in place in the state,” Farooq Abdullah had said.
This year, in August, NC meeting chaired by Dr Farooq Abdullah focused on framing a strategy to be adopted to contest the case filed in the Supreme Court against abrogation of Articles 370 and 35 A and also the J&K Reorganisation Act 2019 enacted to divide the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State.
Even at that time, there were speculations that Dr Farooq Abdullah was playing ball with the Centre and is leaving a room open for negotiating a deal with it in case Supreme Court turns down the petition filed by the NC against scrapping of Article 370.
