Schools reopen in Kishtwar, students stay away
Biannual exams for class 10th, 12th commence

Kishtwar, Sept 21: After remaining closed for six months due to outbreak of COVID-19 schools reopened in this hilly district on voluntary basis on Monday. However, these institutions recorded thin attendance.
Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) finally held the biannual examination for class 12th and 10th in winter zones of the UT.
According to the details available with Early Times the minimal number of students appeared for Urdu/Hindi Paper for 12th class which was also held at Kishtwar District.
Keeping in view the COVID 19 threat, special arrangements were put in place for the students going to appear in these examination wherein the authorities were seen taking all precautionary measures including maintaining social distancing and use of sanitisers in examination hall beside each student appearing for the examination had to wear the mask.
Senior officials of the administration including ADDC Kishtwar Mohammad Hanief Malik, CEO Kishtwar Dr. Kuldeep Kumar Sharma, Dy. CEO Kishtwar Rajinder Kumar and other concerned officials from JKBOSE office Kishtwar also made special visit to examination centers to ensure that examination will be conducted as per the guidelines and SoPs issued by the government.
Meanwhile, after several months of closure of schools, the government gave consent to reopen the high/higher secondary schools wherein several instructions were issued before allowing the students to attend the classes. These instructions included consent from the parents with regard to not to blame school authorities if their wards get infected due to COVID-19 in school beside the responsibility of maintaining social distancing has been put on the students instead of on school management.
Response of students in Kishtwar district was lukewarm as majority of the schools in Kishtwar and Doda District wore a deserted look with students staying away.
Speaking to Early Times, CEO Kishtwar Dr. Kuldeep Kumar Sharma said that all precautionary measures are being taken while conducting the examination added that all the examination centers had been disinfected prior to holding examination.
In response to the question on opening of schools aimed COVID 19 pandemic, Sharma said that as per the instruction from the higher authorities, the students had to fill up the consent farm added that only 50% students on rotational bases with 50% staff will attend the schools. He said that department will ensure that all the SOPs will get implemented during the school hours. He said that as off now, no student turn up in schools and said that once the students start coming, they will continuously access the situation. He said that rotational duty plan for teachers has already been prepared.
In response to the instructions about private schools, the CEO Kishtwar said that private schools are part and parcel of the education department added that all the instructions which was issued for government schools also applied on private schools.
He said that private schools will have to follow all the instructions which was issued by the government with regard to the opening of government schools.
In a question on some schools still functioning as COVID care centers, the CEO Kishtwar said that the department has already requested District Administration Kishtwar to handover the all the schools designated as COVID care centers back to Education Department.
