Reopening of schools: Not students, ‘transfer-mafia’ enjoys benefits!

Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 22: Out-rightly rejecting suggestions of the people, UT administration has opened schools but worried parents have preferred not to send their wards due to fear of Corona.
On the second day, attendance of students in the schools was almost negligible but ‘resourceful’ teachers who have managed their transfers in places of their choices were in a hurry to join their new place of postings.
Credible sources said that as of now it appears that opening of school was not going to give any benefit to the students but this step would facilitate ‘transfer mafia’ which during the period of last six-months has managed transfers of teaching staff in lieu of huge amounts.
Since the closing of the schools from the month of March, a large number of teachers, masters, lecturers have been transferred despite the fact that all educational institutions were closed. A mafia has been active in the Education Department which has fixed rates of transfer and many teachers, masters and lecturers were shifted from one place to another within the city.
Only time will tell whether students will take advantage of this risky decision of the authorities to open schools when deadly virus is at its peak in Jammu province but, sources in the Education Department said that ‘resources teachers’ would utilize this opportunity to immediately join their new places of postings.
While pointing towards transfer lists issued during the last six months, sources said that lecturers, masters and teachers who were posted in within municipal limits were transferred to others schools within city due to interference of ‘transfer mafia’
As reported in the media, parents of the students have raised questions over the wisdom of the education department in opening of school when Covid-19 cases were on rise with a spiraling death toll.
There is fear among the parents who have refused to send their children to the school in such a situation.
“The government is ready to put children into grave danger but it won’t restore 4G network on the grounds that terrorists use it to their advantage.
Terrorists had been using satellite phones in the 90s. So, this argument serves no purpose. The government should better restore the 4G network rather than putting children into danger.”, some parents said.
