Court rejects bail of four in NDPS

JAMMU, Sept 23: Principal Sessions Judge Reasi Kamlesh Pandit rejected the bail applications of Angrez Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Narinder Singh and Jasvir Singh who were arrested by the Arnas Police Station in NDPS Case.
According to the police case that on 26.04.2020, police of Police Station, Arnas, came to know from reliable sources that some persons have illegally cultivated Poppy opium in village Dharan. On this information, police along with Tehsildar Thakrkote, Patwari as well as other officials and Sarpanch in presence of local persons went on spot and found accused persons namely Angrez Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Narinder Singh and Jasvir Singh having illegally planted Poppy opium plants in their fields. As per revenue record accused persons had cultivated the Poppy Opium on their land. The accused Angrez Singh cultivated on 0.5 Marlas, accused Jasvir Singh on 2.5 Marlas, accused Narinder Singh on 2 Marlas and accused Kuldeep Singh on 3 marlas of land comprising Khasra Nos; 493, 495, 524 respectively. Accordingly, police seized 2 Kg 200 gms of Poppy opium plants from the fields of Angrez Singh, 2 Kg 700 gms of Poppy opium plants from the fields of Jasvinder Singh, 2 Kg 900 gms Poppy plants from the fields of Narinder Singh and 2 Kg 600 gms Poppy plants from the fields of Kuldeep Singh and rest of the plants were destroyed in presence of Tehsildar and other officials. On this case under FIR No.28/2020 came to be registered against the accused under section 8/18/29 NDPS Act and the investigation was set in motion and as per the police report investigation is in progress. The accused persons have been arrested on 7.9.2020 .
Principal Sessions Judge Reasi Kamlesh Pandit observed that illegal trafficking and trade in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic substances has posed potential threat to the whole society as it is eating the very vitals of the society and the menace of traffickers is spreading its tentacles to every nook and corner of the UT of Jammu & Kashmir which cannot be ignored and also when investigation is still in progress. The release of accused persons at this stage will definitely have its adverse effect on the investigation. With these observations, Court rejected the bail applications. (JNF)
