Global leader in Agri science launches group in Jammu

Jammu, Sept 23: Syngenta India Limited has launched its maiden Group in Jammu and Kashmir with conduct of a series of exhaustive demonstrations on its hybrid Kharief Corn varieties and other crops, envisaging higher yields and enhanced incomes, in various villages of Jammu region.
Syngenta Group, a new global leader in agricultural science and innovation, is the global market leader in crop protection and enhancing global food security by enabling millions of farmers to make better use of available resources. The company focuses on three key areas “Public-Private Partnerships for Crop Breeding, Seed Systems Research and Incentive Systems for Sustainable Agriculture”.
Syngenta’s objective is to educate small and marginal farmers on the latest developments suited to their local needs, and thus ultimately improve their income by improving their access to better seeds and other inputs.
The agriculture company will start sale of maize seed NK 6240 in Trade Market from next year of Kharief corn season in which local agriculture department will also be involved. Also, the company will also introduce Rabi crops Wheat Research variety SW 23 in Jammu region.
Representative Territory Business Manager, Kailash Pandey, from Syngenta India Limited, recently held demonstrations in Kahna Chack, Khour, Jhiri, Jhakh, Hiranagar, Dhurie, Kiryara, Gurha Mundian, Dhalli, Matandi, Kalaspur, Penthi, Pathwal and Rajpura villages of Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts on Kharif Corn Maize NK 6240. These demonstrations were also attended by representatives of agriculture department who elaborately explained the benefits of the crop besides highlighting their schemes meant for socio-economic empowerment of farmer’s fraternity.
Pandey informed that similar demonstrations would be organized in villages of remaining districts of Jammu region in days to come in a phased manner.
Meanwhile, Kailash Pandey also held the harvest Day on Kharif Corn Maize NK 6240 at village Hiranagar Sub division Dyalachak, District Kathua and briefed in detail about the need and significance of NK 6240 USP- High Yield saying that the plant stays green with firm good grain colour till harvest and gives more yield than the normal crop. This hybrid seed is sown in May-July months in rain-fed and irrigated areas and its crop duration is 100 days, he added saying that its stay green character is too beneficial for the farmers because they can sell their plants to small dairy farmers for fodder after picking cob.
“Jammu region has abundant potential and scope as well for this Maize cultivation and other hybrid seeds of the company which will not only multiply the production manifold but will certainly give a big fillip to agriculture profile of the region”, Pandey asserted. He informed that Maize is the third largest cereal crop in India after rice and wheat and its significance as a source of large number of industrial products besides its uses as human food and animal feed additionally make it an emerging cereal crop of increasing importance. This increased yield either can come through the introduction of new high yielding hybrids or through saving losses caused by pests, he added.
In this awareness cum demonstration camp, Agriculture Officer Naresh Kumar from Dyalachak Sub Division Office and Agriculture Officer Sanjeev Sharma from Samba Sub Division Office raised awareness among the farmers on the ways to get double income from their crops making optimum use of such hybrid good quality seeds under different government schemes.
