J&K Samagra Shiksha, NCERT capacity building in over 34,000 ReTs

Jammu, Sept 30: The Department of Samagra Shiksha, Jammu and Kashmir in collaboration with NCERT is on capacity building mode in more than 34,000 Grade-I and Grade-II, ReTs under month-long Integrated Multidisciplinary Professional Advancement Course for Teachers (IMPACT) being held across the Union Territory.
Based on need assessment, Director, Samagra Shiksha, Jammu and Kashmir, Arun Manhas here told UNI that a one-month short course entitled 'Integrated Multidisciplinary Professional Advancement Course for Teachers (IMPACT) with the objectives to raise the competencies of these teachers to address the needs of diverse students in their classrooms, ensure the effective and successful classroom transactions through capacity building and empowerment program, to improve the learning outcomes of students, was designed.
He said that as a part of IMPACT, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir approached NCERT for the Capacity Building of Grade II and III teachers (erstwhile ReTs) through a course designed to address the gaps in teaching or pedagogical skills of these teachers who have teaching experience of many years.
He further said that the month-long IMPACT course, aiming to promote professional development and teaching skills was designed in three phases comprising of Phase-I Face to Face mode (for five days), Phase-2 Field work (21 days) and Reflection and Assessment (3 days).
Directorate of Samagra Shiksha J&K in collaboration with NCERT New Delhi (under personal supervision of Director NCERT), he said that the training of teachers at zonal level through DIETs was scheduled to be held from the last week of March but was deferred due to outbreak of COVID-19.
"In the times of pandemic where social distancing and remote interactions is the new normal, enhancing the professional development and updating their pedagogical skills digitally is need of the hour," he said and further elaborated that Samagra Shiksha through Jammu and Kashmir Knowledge Network (JKKN) aimed to skill more than 34000 grade II and III Teachers by conducting IMPACT in online/virtual mode.
The Director added that ten modules prepared by NCERT and Samagra Shiksha are being provided to teachers and so far, eleven districts including Srinagar, Ganderbal, Samba, Doda, Pulwama, Budgam, Reasi, Udhampur, Ramban and Shopian has completed their Phase-1.
"IMPACT training in virtual mode started from Doda District on August 10 and was inaugurated by Principal Secretary School Education Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon," Manhas said adding that Face to face Training of Gurez Zone of Bandipora could not take-off due to non-availability of internet.
"Currently the IMPACT programme is going on in all the Districts of the Union Territory and so far 26302 teachers of 141 Zones have completed the first phase of online training," he said, adding that the online Face to Face training phase shall complete on October 27 and the 29 days (complete) training course of all the 34110 will be completed on November 26.
"The first phase is almost near completion as more than 26,000 teachers have undergone capacity building programme and the second phase, which was to be implemented by teachers in their respective schools have been modified by Samagra Shiksha and NCERT, and has been made applicable with respect to the new concept of community classes," Mr Manhas said.
