Cong is not part of Gupkar Alliance, Mehbooba confirms it

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 23: Notwithstanding claims of leaders of the ‘Peoples’ Alliance of Gupkar Declaration’, PDP president and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti admitted that Congress was not part of this ‘alliance’.
“National Conference, Peoples’ Conference, Awami National Conference and one national party CPM are part of the Gupkar Alliance”, Mehbooba said in her press conference and did not mention the name of Congress. She sought support of the people while naming these parties who have joined hands to restore pre-August 5, 2019 position of the erstwhile state of J&K. “We alone cannot fight”, she said and sought support from every section of the society.
Without naming Congress, Mehbooba Mufti said that some parties had supported government’s illegal steps during abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35-A but now the same parties had realized dictatorial attitude of the government on the Citizenship Amendment Bill and Farmers’ Bills.
Mehbooba has reasons to admit that Congress was not part of the Gupkar Alliance because none of the party (Congress) leaders has supported the Alliance, officially.
During her visit to Kashmir Valley recently, newly appointed AICC incharge of Congress, Rajni Patil too had avoided speaking in support of restoring Article 370 and 35-A. Patil demanded restoration of statehood to J&K but she preferred to maintain silence on Article 370 and 35-A.
As reported earlier by the Early Times, Congress, which was part of the Gupkar meeting held on August 4, 2019, was conspicuously absent from the October 15 event in which other signatories were present. On August 4, 2019, J&K Pradesh Congress chief, Ghulam Ahmed Mir was very much present in the meeting in which it was decided to jointly protect Article 370 and Article 35-A ‘at any cost’.
Signatories had tried to down conspicuous absence of Ghulam Ahmed Mir and claimed that Mir wasn’t able to attend today’s meeting due to medical emergency and he had already conveyed signatories.
They claimed that Mir could not attend the October 15 meeting due to a medical emergency but he (Mir) was at Bhaderwah on the very next day to visit the house of former minister Mohammad Sharief Naiz. Mir along with other Congress leaders had visited the residence of Naiz, who died some days back.
