Will Jammu have its due share in Govt’s five-year job policy?
Joblessness in Jammu spiraling as past promises fall flat

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 31: The Jammu and Kashmir government has finally stated that it is going to come up with a comprehensive employment package for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. The question remains will Jammu this time be given the peanuts amid the spiraling joblessness in the region for the past several decades.
“The basic aim of today’s workshop was to give proper counseling to the youth. At the government level, we are working on an employment policy, and in the next five years, unemployment will be over,” lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha while speaking to the reporters on the sidelines of a workshop on Youth Engagement and Outreach at SKICC in Srinagar said.
He added that big business houses of the country participated in the workshop and deliberated on what can be done to end unemployment.
Now when the government has itself revealed that it is all set to roll out a plan, the question remains over whether Jammu will have its due share and educated youth from the region who are made to move from pillar to post will finally have their livelihood accorded with dignity.
Prior to 2014 polls, the political groups in Jammu in union promised massive employment in the region if voted to power. Now, when five years have completed and the latest details of unemployment have come to the fore, there is ample proof that the previous regime has failed to address the menace with people at the receiving end and Jammu continues to become victim discrimination.
Now with the creation of Union Territory, the government must walk the talk and address the issue of joblessness without any delay accord a dignified life to the people who have been craving for it and who deserve it.
Meanwhile, Early Times had last year reported that there no less than 11,807 doctors, engineers, and postgraduates from Jammu region without a job while as the number of jobless youth with similar degrees is much less in Srinagar. The figures at that time too had bellied the claims of equitable development and equal opportunities to the youth of the state.
Data had revealed that there are 60 doctors with MBBS degrees jobless in Jammu while the number of unemployed engineers is 466. There are more than 100 diploma holders jobless in Jammu while the number of postgraduates who were denied employment opportunities is 610. Furthermore, at present, there are 1642 graduates in the Jammu region without any job while those in the category of ‘others’ are 7916 in number.
