4 more yatris die, toll reaches to 88

Srinagar, July 17: Four more yatris died, taking the toll to 88 since the commencement of the annual pilgrimage to holy Amarnath cave shrine, situated at 13500 feet, in south Kashmir Himalyas, from June 25. A yatra official said today that Patil Hiralal (61), a resident of Gujarat, died at Panjtarni due to cardiac arrest while a 25-year-old Ashok Kumar a resident of Bagrita in Jammu, died at Poshpathri due to cardiac arrest. He said Shimatra Rattan Devi (76), a resident of Bihar died at Sangam due to cardiac arrest. Badri Prasad Jagdesh (25), a resident of Madhya Pradesh, was critically injured after he was hit by a stone at Railpathri. He was taken to MAC where he was declared dead. With this a total of 88 pilgrims have lost their lives during the pilgrimage against a total of 120 during the entire yatra period last year. Fifteen pilgrims died in a road accident on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, taking the total toll to 103 since June 25 when the yatra commenced.
