Jammu, July 30: There was no trace of police sub-inspector (SI) SI Sunil Khajuria even as a 25-member National Disaster Rescue Team searched for him in the swollen waters of the mighty river Chenab at Akhnoor near here today.
The divers of the rescue team, which arrived here Sunday from Bhatinda in Punjab, started searches for the SI, who was suspected to have drowned in Chenab near Akhnoor on July 27 last. His car was found parked near the bridge.
The team members, who were in two boats, searched for the missing SI in the river waters from Akhnoor to Pargwal but could find any clue to his whereabouts, police sources said.
The Chenab flows across the border to Pakistan. Sources said there was the possibility of his body having been washed away to Pakistan. A message in this regard had been flashed to the Pak Rangers, the sources added.
Sources said on July 27, an army jawan, who was on sentry duty at the bridge entrance, had seen the SI moving towards the river after parking his car by the roadside.
In reply to a query by the sentry, he had told him that he would be back soon after attending the call of nature.
However, when he did not return even after an hour, the jawan brought the matter to the notice of his seniors who, in turn, informed police.
Quoting his family members, sources said he was not keeping well after his road accident in which he had sustained a head injury some time back. |
