| Presidential polls strategy by 7 BJP MLAs a 'conciliatory gesture' …? | | 'Re entry' move resisted by RSS, a section of leaders | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 30: Even as the support extended to Presidential candidate PA Sangma by the group of 7 legislators in BJP led by veteran politician Prof Chaman Lal Gupta was seen as a strategy to toe the line of Central leadership, the political move may not fetch immediate dividends to the legislators in terms of their strong 'urge and aspiration' to come back into the party fold in a dignified manner.
According to sources the move taken well in time, in fact much ahead of the group of four legislators in terms of announcing formal support to the NDA nominee by the group led by Prof Gupta was indeed a 'conciliatory gesture' that could pave way for their 're-entry' into the party fold and has been appreciated by some leaders in the Central leadership who matter in taking vital decisions related to party affairs in the J&K State. But a section of leaders both at the local level and Central level in the party are opposed to the idea of taking the 7 legislators back who were expelled on charges of having cross voted during Legislative Council polls last year, sources said.
Sources also said that RSS , which takes decisions and determines the strategic course of action for the party in most of the political matters is also resisting the return of the expelled MLAs in the party. The contention of the RSS in resisting this move is purely on grounds of adherence to the norms of discipline which is above all individuals and in the interests of the party, the opposition by leaders to acceptance and their entry into party has varied political and personal reasons, which may not count when the high command takes some lenient view of the matter and accommodate them back as 'normal' legislators of the party, sources said.
Sources also attributed to this opposition at the local level on account of some long standing friction and serious differences between some legislators and the senior functionaries in the party in J&K unit. However, there are some leaders in high command who have given assurance and indication that their return into the party fold is an issue which is still alive and open and the high command may consider it seriously anytime before or at the time of Assembly elections in 2014, sources said. This assurance from crucial quarters has generated some hope among the group of 7 legislators, though the move as and when fructified may see central leadership taking back only one or two legislators who matter for party prospects politically and can fetch desirable results and gains for the party. Whether this assurance is for real or a move to keep some quarters in good humour, for personal aggrandizement, is something that will unfold in coming time but as of now there is strong urge and hope among the group to be a part of the party in so far as their political aspirations are concerned. |
