J&K gears up for Independence Day celebrations

SRINAGAR, Aug 4 : After the conclusion of successful and peaceful Amarnath Yatra, the Jammu and Kashmir is preparing for the Independence Day celebrations. The state machinery is taking extra caution in view of some incidents of militancy and reports of some infiltration from across the border.
A high level meeting was held today which was presided over the newly appointed Director General of Police Ashok Prasad. It is going to be his first major assignment after taking over as the DGP.
A high level meeting of the police officers was held at Police Headquarters (PHQ) here today. The meeting was chaired by Director General of Police (DGP), Ashok Prasad and was attended by senior police officers including Range Deputy Inspectors General of Police and District Superintendents of Police of the Valley.
Threadbare discussions were held with regard to deployment of police personnel and maintenance of law and order. The meeting was told that sufficient man power would be deployed for the security of the venues and maintenance of law and order during the celebrations. In addition, contingents from different wings would participate in the celebrations for which the exercise has been started.
Earlier, the Additional Directors General of Police, K Rajendra Kumar and Dr. Ram Lubhaya apprised the meeting about the arrangements with regard to the State Level function being held at Bakshi Stadium. It was told that effective measures have been taken for the security and deployment of man power. ADGP SDRF, Smt. D. R. Doley, also apprised the meeting about the arrangements made by State Disaster Response Force.
Among others, the meeting was attended by ADGP (Headquarters), S. P. Vaid, IGPs,. V. K. Singh, Owais Ahmed, B. Srinivas, A. K. Choudhary and S. Sulaiman Salaria, DIGs, S. S. Khandare and N. D.Wani.
