Azad may perform 'trouble shooter' role in party again
9/15/2012 12:02:04 AM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 14: In the reshuffle within the Union Cabinet likely to happen any time soon, while some fresh and young faces are all set to make entry in the Council of Ministers, the Congress is effecting some vital changes from within its own party to delegate new assignments to the senior leaders who have hitherto been taking care of the Ministries. Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad is being given a responsibility at a higher post as fresh assignment in the party, it is reliably learnt.
Sources said while some incumbent Ministers shall have to call it a day with their Ministries as few of them are being dropped and in their place some new faces, mostly the young ones would make their way in. Sources said, Ghulam Nabi Azad, who at present holds the charge of Health Ministry is being contemplated for a bigger and far more vital role in the party, perhaps more important and serious responsibility than what he has been discharging earlier while he worked in capacity of AICC General Secretary.
For this he may or may not be relieved of his portfolio in the reshuffle on anvil, sources said adding that the party High Command wants Azad to be on the forefront of party affairs and help in taking key political decisions. While this is almost certain that he is in for some political role, the high command may not relieve him of the Ministry since he is considered to be skillful in wearing too many hats and holding them perfectly while delivering duties of the party affairs besides other assignments related to polls. Azad may be given the assignment within the party as additional task in view of the pressing time ahead for the high command on account of elections in some States and consolidating position of the party in some prestigious constituencies in UP.
As Congress is faced with crisis within the Government on a host of issues and in the backdrop of growing criticism towards the leadership, the party high command wants to delegate responsibility of consolidating party matters to some senior leaders who have played such roles in the past effectively. Azad having discharged such duties, particularly during the elections for the party many times in the past, is being given the new task of handling party affairs, keeping in view Assembly elections in some States as also with eye on 2014 general polls.
